Roebuck & Company, also known as Sears, is an American retailer of general merchandise, home appliances, tools, and automotive parts and services. In 1931, Sears founded the Allstate Corporation, an insurance and general goods subsidiary that produced fire extinguishers and refill fluids. The Allstate Corporation subsidiary was spun off in 1995 to focus on Sears' lagging core retail operations.
